OUR VISION FOR EDUCATION AS APOSTOLIC CARMELITE

Called to live in God’s presence and sharing in Christ’s mission to transform the world in love, we sisters of the Apostolic Carmel respond like Mary, Our Mother, and our Foundress Mother Veronica by our lives of consecration.

– Striving to draw out the full potential of our students and especially of the women we educate.
– Fostering in them the rich values of Christian and cultural heritage so that they are urged to respond to life’s challenges with joy and courage that is rooted in prayer and committed to serve society as responsible citizens.

A special trust of our educational efforts is an active concern for the formation of authentic Christians imbued with a sense of mission to our country and the world.

Education with its focus on the marginalized , concern for the disabled, Aids awareness programmes, family apostolate, and faith formation takes priority in our Institutions. Our sisters also conduct SCC Meetings, Youth Ministry, Prepare Children to receive the Sacraments, Parish Catechism …

Through our main work of Education we are looking for ways and means to educate the poor, the marginalized and the school drop outs to equip them for a ‘Better Tomorrow’. To carry out this mission we have organized a number of supportive activities. Even in the best of our schools we have children coming from unfavourable backgrounds. We conduct free coaching classes after school hours for children of the neighbourhood Government schools and slow learners of our own schools.

Jivan Sarita Ashram at Mehsana is a social Service Centre for the surrounding village apostolate, service in the Parish and in the care of girls in our boarding house. Ishwardaan and Carmel Seva Mandir are Social Service Centres providing courses in Typewriting, Coaching Classes and Library facilities for the underprivileged children. They also provide instruction in Health and Hygiene and Adult Literacy.

As part of social work outreach programmes are conducted by the province and in schools and communities. Sister Alpana from Jivan Sarita Ashram, Mehsana works in collaboration with the Jesuits in a village project at Linch in the district of Mehsana. There are various skills taught to young girls and boys. The girls are taught sewing, cooking, English which would help them earn. The boys are taught computers, welding, mechanics etc. There are about 88 students. It has just begun and needs to grow.

ishwardaanThe MSCIT (Maharashtra State Certificate Information Technology) Computer course was recently set up at Ishwardaan, Pune, which in turn helps towards job opportunities for the poor of the locality. Sisters Manuelina and Mercy are incharge of the Computer classes.

Besides they also have a hostel for young girls who come for studies to Pune.

Some of our Schools have adopted villages. Carmel Convent Delhi: As part of the social outreach initiative by the school, a comprehensive Community Service program has been instituted for the students. The school has implemented the program with the twin objectives of meeting the School’s commitment to the society at large and to inspire its students to engage in social activities and to instill in them the qualities of care, compassion and empathy.

The social outreach Program has been made the integral part of the School’s curriculum and is conducted fortnightly on Saturdays for the students. Mentoring sessions for the students were organized as part of the Program to sensitize them about their social responsibilities.

Every fortnight the students of the senior classes are organized in groups to undertake the various social activities. Each of this group is supervised by a Teacher. In addition to the outreach activities, the students also distributed gifts and utility items at the various centers.

It continues helping Nuh village which was adopted in 2006.They have started working with a new village called Malab. Generation of employment at Malab village is an ongoing project now. The Sisters, teachers, students along with a doctor/nurse visit the village. Classes are conducted for them; medical help is given to children.

pawangaonMount Carmel school Nagpur reached out to the less privileged by adopting a village in Pawangaon, Nagpur. Groups of students were conscientized about the needs of the poor. The students interacted and taught them a sense of importance of hygiene, health and sanitation both personal and of their surroundings through various skits, speeches and songs. A special focus was on first aid, as well as importance of trees and save the girl child. The students were encouraged to sacrifice a small part of their pocket money and share with the children of Pawangaon.

Mount Carmel Convent, Navrangpura: The two girls, Alima and Reena, after completing class 10th came to work in the convent as maids. Seeing their interest and desire to continue their studies we decided to enroll their names in NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) to complete class XI & XII. Sr. Manisha who is in charge of their studies takes them up every day after school and is helping them to get ready to answer their exams in the month of May. They also attend computer classes in the school daily where the computer master helps them in their syllabus.

Sister Margaret Angela too at Carmel Convent, Bandra, helped two of our aides Mukta and Mary to answer their Class X and XII through NIOS.

Our NIOS Centres at Carmel New Delhi and Mount Carmel, Pune continue to do a great service to the school drop-outs. Many of our schools have helped several drop-outs to complete their SSC exams through Open School. Our schools in Nuvem, Gandhidham, Borda and Navarangpura have helped several drop-outs to complete their SSC exams through Open School.

Several schools in the Province conduct evening schools and remedial classes for poor children. Summer camps were organized in Borda, Pune to impart various skills to children. Poor and intellectually weak students from Govt. schools were admitted, comprising of one division and they were given special coaching classes by Sisters in Gandhinagar to bring them up to a certain standard.

A.C.A. Out-reach programme: Most of the units conduct at least two small out-reach programmes annually which are mutually enriching: while bringing joy to the marginalized, they also make the Associates aware of God’s blessings for their own families and to look upon their own problems in clearer perspective. Some Associates are very much involved in Parish activities. A few pay fees of poor children, visit the sick and occasionally visit the prisoners. Many AC Associates experience special support from one another especially in times of difficulties and sickness. So far our associates have not ventured into undertaking a project which would make a tangible difference in the life of the poor.

The Carmel Blossoms Units in the Province function enthusiastically. All the schools organize programmes like Visits to hospitals, Clergy homes, Homes for the Aged, Destitute Women’s Homes, Schools for Differently-abled, Street Children, slum children, Aids Patients, Orphanages etc. (according to the feasibility of the place).blossoms
